Your Cook's Cycles Bike Rental Questions Answered

Is Nantucket a good place to get around by bike?

Nantucket is one of the best cycling destinations on the East Coast. The island has an extensive network of dedicated bike paths covering most major landmarks, beaches, and villages — and because the island is compact, you can reach almost anywhere in under an hour. Paths range from easy, flat routes perfect for families to longer stretches with a bit more terrain. Whether you’re a casual rider or a seasoned cyclist, you’ll find a route that fits.

Every rental comes fully equipped. You’ll get a helmet (required for riders 16 and under, optional for adults), a lock, and a classic Nantucket wicker basket with our cruiser bikes only — handy for a picnic, a beach bag, or anything you pick up along the way. We also provide a bike map and complimentary roadside assistance in case anything unexpected comes up on your ride. We want your day on the island to go smoothly from start to finish.

Absolutely. We know arriving on Nantucket with luggage, kids, and gear is already a full job — so we’ll bring the bikes to you. Browse our inventory online or give us a call, let us know what you need and where you’re staying, and we’ll handle delivery. We serve locations across the island, so whether you’re in town or out in Siasconset, we’ve got you covered. Just let us know your timeline and we’ll work around your schedule.

Yes — that’s what we’re here for. Our staff will talk through where you’re planning to ride, how far, and who’s coming along, then help match you to the right bikes for the job. We’ll also make sure everything fits properly: frame height, seat position, and helmet fit. Getting this right makes a real difference on a long ride, so don’t hesitate to ask questions. If you’re renting for a group or family, we’ll take care of everyone at once

We do. We carry a full range of children’s bikes in various sizes, as well as trailers and tag-alongs for younger riders who aren’t quite ready to pedal on their own. Helmets are included with every children’s rental and are required by Massachusetts state law for riders 16 and under. Our staff will make sure the fit is right before you head out. Nantucket’s paths are genuinely family-friendly, and we want to make sure your kids have as much fun as you do.

The beaches are the perennial favorite — Madaket, Cisco, and Sconset are all reachable by dedicated bike path and each has its own personality. But there’s a lot more to explore. Polpis Road winds past the harbor and cranberry bogs. The historic town itself is walkable and bikeable. If you’re not sure where to start, ask us — we ride these paths constantly ourselves and are happy to recommend a route based on your group, your pace, and how much time you have.

We offer half-day, full-day, multi-day, and weekly rentals. Multi-day rentals are a great value if you’re on the island for a few days and want flexibility to ride on your own schedule. Give us a call or stop by to check availability and current pricing — we’ll find an option that works for you
